During the Christmas break, we were asked to complete some tasks in preparation for the Documentary Praxis module. One of the tasks was to watch Sans Soleil by Chris Marker and put my thoughts on my blog.
After watching Sans Soleil, the message I received is that Chris Marker wanted to explore how individuals live across the world. His style of documentary is very observational, as we as viewers are made to sit back and observe.
The documentary was very hard for me to get into and I restarted it many times. I could see his vision for the documentary, which was supported with great visuals however, the narrative did not entice me and was quite hard to comprehend as it cuts back and forth between two different settings, Tokyo and West Africa. In conclusion, it was a well composed documentary however, I believe it is not targeted at the latest generations, as I lost interest, and found it hard to connect with the narrative.
